If you are a Tampa Electric customer considering a ceiling-insulation rebate, contact the utility before installation. Its program requires a preapproval attic inspection.

Start by checking the electric utility on your bill. A Tampa-area address alone does not establish which program applies to your home.

Follow the utility’s approval sequence

Tampa Electric’s published process says to:

  1. Arrange an attic assessment with its energy analyst before installing insulation.
  2. If insulation is recommended, obtain the rebate certificate and approved-contractor list. The certificate is valid for one year.
  3. Confirm a participating contractor and eligible scope. For contractor-installed work, the utility says the rebate is deducted from the invoice.

For owner-installed work, TECO separately lists an application process requiring the account number, certificate and paid receipt, submitted within 90 days after installation. Follow the instructions for the route you actually use. Check the official Ceiling Insulation program for current terms.

Bring the approval details into the estimate conversation

Once you have spoken with the utility, keep the project scope and rebate discussion together. Ask the installer to explain:

  • Which parts of the proposed work relate to the utility recommendation.
  • The product, area and installed R-value included in the estimate.
  • Any removal or preparation that is priced separately.
  • The total project price and any proposed rebate adjustment.
  • Who is responsible for each remaining document or confirmation.

This gives you a written basis for comparing the proposed work with what the utility has approved. If something is unclear, resolve it before agreeing to an installation date.

Keep three questions separate

Does the attic need insulation work? That is a question about the home’s existing condition and proposed improvement.

Does the work qualify for a rebate? Confirm that with the utility using its current requirements.

What will the project cost? Review the complete estimate, including any work beyond the rebate-related insulation. Do not assume an incentive covers the whole job.

Discuss your insulation project with Time

Time Insulation offers residential insulation services, including blown cellulose. When you request an estimate, include your property location, electric utility and whether you have already completed an energy assessment.

Time participates in TECO’s ceiling-insulation program. After you receive utility approval, give us the approval information so we can review the eligible work with your estimate. We handle the rebate paperwork and reimbursement for approved work, and the applicable rebate is deducted from your invoice. You pay the remaining project balance. Keep your approval information, proposal and invoice together.
